04For many students, the college experience is more than just learning and preparing for a career. It's about discovering and becoming the best possible version of themselves. Formed in 1999, Divine Mercy University is a unique Catholic institution preparing students to be leaders in the fields of psychology, counseling, and spiritual direction. Mission of Divine Mercy University is to blend the best of science in the mental health field with the best of Christian thought about life, about our eternal destiny. Integration is the way we come up with a holistic view of the person and then use proven scientific techniques within that context. There's studies out that show well over fifty percent of people who seek mental health treatment and therapy wanna discuss faith or spirituality, and yet probably only about in the twenty percent range are those therapists who feel competent to go there with people with such great need for professionals who can understand that and who can help so many people who are hurting, give them a holistic approach to healing on a psychological, on an emotional, you know, on a mental health level.

22A best kept secret tucked away within miles of Washington DC, DMU offers graduate degrees, continuing education, and certificate programs through online and in person learning, each dedicated to a Catholic Christian understanding of the mind, body, and soul. Led by a renowned faculty, DMU's framework provides students with the tools to not only assist others in their path of development, but also apply them to their own flourishing healing and growth. We teach the whole person. As counselors, we work with so many different people, all the way from children through older adults, couples, families, a lot of different situations. We're preparing our students to work with people all through the lifespan.

07In addition to the overarching value of the Catholic Christian meta model of the human person, we of course teach specifics. We teach about specific techniques. You also have an opportunity to be well supervised in our internship classes. You learn a great deal about the field from your practitioner scholar faculty and we really teach you more than just how to memorize theories, but how do you apply them? How do you use them? And how do you use them in the context of the whole person that's not taught everywhere? Our students are going out, they're making a difference, and it's showing that this philosophy and this approach to counselor education really is twenty first century excellent. Divine Mercy University regularly attracts students who share the need to understand the human mind so they can learn to help others heal, increase productivity in the workforce, and serve their communities as healers and leaders of the faith.

07One of the things we see in our graduates is not only are they well prepared as professionals who are open to faith and wanna help people heal and so forth, the programs also really help them personally. I didn't want a place to go where they just taught us skills and gave us tools. I wanted a place where I can grow. I wanted a place where I could flourish within whatever vocation God was calling me to. When I was looking at Divine Mercy University, I saw that they not only taught us what to do, but they taught taught us how to learn. They taught us what it means to grow. My relationship with my professors, I would say, is from a relationship of a mentor. Our student to teacher ratio is very small, and so I really do appreciate that they take the time to know me and to know exactly where I'm at in my journey and to help me to get where I need to be.

55No matter what your background is, whether it's in philosophy or theology or psychology, I think that those all come together and are integrated so perfectly here at Divine Mercy. So that no matter what your background is and what you excel at, you'll find a more complete view of the human person here, which will help you to become ultimately a healer of faith. Our future plans are to continue to strengthen the programs that we have and then add some specialties in within those programs. We also see an opportunity to do more, continue education, Also projects to serve clergy, Catholic and non Catholic, like different basic skills. How do you listen to a person better? I think the biggest question many people ask themselves today is why does my life matter?

40In our approach, we're trying to help them answer that question. What does my life mean? Why am I here? What am I doing? And where am I going? And when they find meaning, it leads them to happiness. It gives them a hope, and it helps them to become a better person for other people. Great universities arm students with the tools to become compassionate healers so they can serve their communities intellectually, respectfully, and professionally.
